CBR Review: Deadpool: Wade Wilson's War, issue 4
CBR Reader Reviews &bull Today
Whenever you step into the mind of a madman, you should expect to not mind that the man is mad. This final issue is like an Edgar Wright deconstruction of a Christopher Nolan helmed A-Team movie from an alternate dimension that either has the score from" The Proposition" laid over it or the original songs from "Grease." Does that make sense? It's… Full Story »

Comics FutureStars: The High School Yearbook of the Comics Industry
Comics Alliance &bull Sep 1, 2010
If you ever need a reminder that the early '90s were a strange, strange time for the comics industry, then look no further than Comics FutureStars. Released by Majestic Entertainment in 1993, FutureStars was a showcase for nearly a hundred artists who were thought to be the next wave of up-and-comers who would ride the infamous boom to stardom. And of course, because this is the '90s we're talking about, it was released as a trading card set. Seriously, the only way that box could be more '90s is if it was literally dipped in chromium. As you might expect,… Full Story »

BCC: Michael Allred
The ComicNe.ws Tracker &bull Aug 31, 2010
Michael and Laura Allred walked into their assigned discussion room last Saturday afternoon at the 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con just as Dennis Kitchen wrapped up his presentation. Allred joked that he would have paid Kitchen to give him an introduction. As the crowd slowly shifted, Kitchen fans out and Allred fans in, Michael invited everyone to come up and fill in the front few rows for a much more intimate panel experience. The Allreds settled up at the table in front of their microphones as Chris Roberson, writer of the Vertigo title "iZombie," prepared to ask them… Full Story »

When Words Collide - Monday, Aug 30th
The ComicNe.ws Tracker &bull Aug 30, 2010
Cliff Chiang at Baltimore Comic-ConI know I ended last week's interview with Scott Snyder by saying, "Hey, more next week, and we talk about Grant Morrison," and while that was the plan, a couple of things foiled that sucker: (1) Scott and I aren't quite done talking about Grant Morrison, and (2) I went to the Baltimore Comic Con this weekend. I'd only been to that show once, a couple of years back, and it was a good time. I even wrote about it for this very column. This year, my motives for going to the show were a little… Full Story »

Go, Read: ICv2.com's Annual Interview With DC Head Editorial Honchos
Comics Reporter &bull Aug 25, 2010
The hobby business news and analysis site ICv2.com has a three-partinterview (why it's three parts, I have no idea) up with Dan DiDio and Jim Lee. It's a pleasant interview, but the two guys are almost willfully obtuse, so I'm not sure there's a whole lot in takeaways.… Full Story »

Joshua Jabcugas Squib Central
www.comics101.com via @jabcuga &bull Aug 23, 2010Scott Tipton Vs. Josh Jabcuga Vs. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World: Wherein Jabcuga goes against the geek grain and explains why he believes the movie tanked. In his column last week Comics101.com cohort Scott Tipton proclaimed his love for the film adaptation of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. He even reiterated in print something he had told me over the phone the week after attending Comic-Con, and that was his fear that the film would fall victim to the "SERENITY syndrome," in which, and I quote, "far too many preview screenings have softened the audience base to the point that… Full Story »

Superheroes!: Capes and Costumes in Comics and Film
Comic Book Bin &bull Aug 21, 2010Superheroes!: Capes and Costumes in Comics and Film By Zak Edwards Aug 21, 2010 - 14:19:47 PM I.B Tauris Writer(s): Roz Kaveney $20.95 CDN, 288 pgs. Roz Kaveney, a fairly well known popular culture commentator, recently devoted her efforts to the superhero genre of comics and film in her book Superheroes!: Capes and Costumes in Comics and Film, which offers a variety of meditations on the superhero genre of mostly the past thirty years. The book is, in her own words, a fairly "theory-lite" but still fairly academic analysis of the genre, but not without many of the problems that… Full Story »

SPINOFF: Why "Scott Pilgrim" Is The Movie Comic Book Movies Should Model Themselves After
The ComicNe.ws Tracker &bull Aug 14, 2010
I'll admit it; I love Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I loved it so much the first time I saw it, in fact, that it took a second viewing to confirm to myself that I really wasn't misremembering how good it was, how much I'd enjoyed it, and how well it worked as a film. I'd had this thing in my head, before I saw it, that could pretty much have been reduced to a constant refrain of "Please don't screw… Full Story »
