Gary Friedrich and Marvel
The Forbidden Planet International Blog Log &bull Feb 13, 2012
The comicsphere has been awash with comments over the last few days after the latest in the sadly never-ending tussle between veteran comics creators or their estates and massive publishers backed by even more massive multimedia corporations. I think most of us have read about various such cases - the Jack Kirby and the Siegel and Shuster cases spring prominently to mind. But this week a lot of comics folks have been quite sickened not just by the usual no, it is our company character the creator has no rights approach (which has been debated endlessly for… Full Story »

Development Deal: "Dakota North"
Comic Book Resources &bull Feb 12, 2012
If there's one thing that a quick look at the current state of television and movies will tell you, it's that there's not much need for original ideas when there's so much out there ready and waiting to be adapted, updated or just outright ripped off. That's why we've decided to help in that process with a… Full Story »

Wild Horse!
the Web Comic List &bull Feb 12, 2012
A brilliant solution to that age old problem of having to get another beer! Do I even need to say who made this masterpiece? Greg of course! Thankfully, Greg has never tried this underhanded trick on me but he did say the comic was based a on a true story so there is definitely at least one victim out there. This comic is quiet a topical one in my life at the moment because I… Full Story »

Re: For the Writers Among Us
Advanced Iron &bull Feb 12, 2012
Metal Head, Chaos and I got started discussing writing in another thred: http://www.advancediron.org/forums/index.php/topic,3058.msg39055.html#msg39055. But instead of derailing that one further, I started this one.Anyone out there serious about writing, be it a novel, short story, screenplay, comic book, poem, etc.?Anybody already a published author who might care to share their success stories and some insights into the business?Or how about your routine? How do you write? I'll start on that one...Luckily, right now I have a few free hours to devote to writing every day. I sit down at the computer around 8:00am after the kids are off to school… Full Story »

Twenty-One Not Exactly Original Notes On More Watchmen, Written At A Slight Remove
Comics Reporter &bull Feb 12, 2012
1. In and of itself, More Watchmen is an interesting story, but it's not that interesting a story. The More Watchmen story reminds us of how enthralled even the most enlightened comics fans are by an orientation towards North American comic books, specifically superhero comics, and even more crucially the superhero comic books of one's youth. Because that's what Watchmen is now for a huge chunk of comics fans: a formative experience a tiny bit further in the past than Fantastic Four #1 one was when the Moore/Gibbons series hit the stands. 2. The More Watchmen firestorm became more intriguing… Full Story »

Will Elder Weekends: More Starchie!
X-Ray Spex &bull Feb 12, 2012
I've blogged before about "Starchie!," the classic Kurtzman/Elder takedown of America's favorite teenager that originally appeared in Mad #12 (June 1954). A later Kurtzman/Elder Archie satire, the notorious "Goodman Goes Playboy," is more notorious, and Archie's lawyers took the boys… Full Story »

Buffy the Vampire Slayer getting abortion
The Four Color Media Monitor &bull Feb 12, 2012
Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong. Despite claims of a 27% increase, sales are still ... Comic-creating conservatives need to counter the O... What is the use of Watchmen prequels? Billy Batson was once… Full Story »
